Our Approach: How We Teach

While it is not a new or unusual concept, most cooking classes teach by recipes. They show you how to make specific dishes, e.g. beef lasagne, shepherd’s pie, roast chicken etc. To cram 100+ customized recipes into 4 hours would be impossible, and so we take a different approach to how you learn.

We teach you cooking techniques like pan-frying, braising, roasting, deep-frying, grilling etc. and apply these techniques to main categories of food such as pasta, rice, meats, seafoods and vegetables. We teach you basic flavor combinations, how to use fresh herbs, seasoning and sauces. We show you how to make versatile dressings and sauces, and how to be creative with them. Our customized recipes are written with this idea in mind.

We also show you the importance and joy of the mise en place (French for ‘putting in place’), especially when we set out to cook ahead several meals for the week, or a big multi-course dinner. Often it is the lack of organization in the home kitchen that leads to longer prep and cooking times, unnecessary mistakes and even chaos!

Of course, for the beginner cook, we will simplify the process to suit your learning curve. And that is also why we offer 30 days unlimited consultations with your chef instructor after the cooking session, so you can ask as many questions as you want and get as much help as you need.

See you in class!
